HMS Hood was a British battlecruiser active during the interwar period and the Second World War. She was built in 1918 and commissioned two years later. She was 262.3 metres long. The cruiser’s main armament consisted of eight 381 mm BL Mk I guns. During the interwar period, the cruiser was the pride of the Royal Navy as the largest ship in the world. Following the outbreak of the Second World War and the defeat of France, it was transported to Gibraltar, where it joined Force H. On 21 May 1941, it set out on its final voyage accompanied by the battleship “Prince of Wales”. Three days later, British ships encountered the German battleship Bismarck and the accompanying heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen in the Danish straits. After a brief long-range artillery duel, a well-aimed shell from the Bismarck caused an internal explosion in the stern of the Hood, which completely destroyed the ship. Of the 1,418 crew members, only three sailors were rescued. The sinking of the “HOOD” came as a tremendous shock to Britain.
The model kit of HMS Hood has been designed on a scale of 1:300 and faithfully reproduces the details of its historical counterpart. The model is 88 cm / 34.6″ long and 22 cm / 8.7″ high. It features many moving parts, such as deck guns, rotating gun turrets, rudders and propellers. The model has been finished with high-quality prints that replicate the ship’s equipment and camouflage. The prints will not wear off even with intensive play. The set includes a black display stand and a white plaque with the model name and scale printed on it. The ship is sure to delight adults and younger history, military and maritime enthusiasts alike. It will look great on a desk, on a bookshelf, in an office or in the room of any building block fan.
