Product information "Historical Collection WWII - Sd.Kfz.251/9 "Stummel""

Using a set of 750 COBI building blocks, you can build the most famous of the Shermans—the JUMBO M4A3E2 model, also known as the Cobra King, which was the first to enter the Belgian town of Bastogne. The model features elements covered with high-quality prints that won’t wear off even with heavy use. Particularly noteworthy is the tank crew’s very distinctive graffiti. The design perfectly reflects the original forms of its historical prototype. Moving wheels and tracks, opening hatches, access to a block engine, a movable turret and barrel, as well as two minifigures guarantee the satisfaction of owning this set inspired by true history! The set is rounded out by a plaque bearing the vehicle’s name.
The Sherman Jumbo is a large collector’s set, perfect for those with experience building more complex sets. A must-have for military and history enthusiasts.

The Sherman M4A3E2 “Jumbo” was a short-run series of heavily armored tanks, with only 254 units produced. The Shermans were armed with a 75-mm gun mounted on a modified M62 turret.

The Jumbo, nicknamed “Cobra King,” was the one equipped with both the 76-mm gun and the coaxial machine gun. It was issued to the 37th Tank Battalion of the 4th Tank Division in late October 1944 and served as the commander’s tank for Comrade C. The tank became famous during the German offensive in the Ardennes in the winter of 1944. It was the first to break through the German lines and reach the soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division, who were surrounded in Bastogne, Belgium. To commemorate this significant event, the tank’s crew painted a special graffiti design, which has been reproduced by COBI using durable prints. The tank’s subsequent fate is no less intriguing. Some sources say that the tank took part in Operation Hammelburg, General Patton’s secret mission, where it was destroyed in March 1945. For many years, the tank’s wreckage was displayed at war memorials under false markings. It wasn’t until 2001 that military chaplain Keith Goode helped uncover the true story of an anonymous wreck. The tank was carefully restored at the Patton Museum and is now located in Fort Benning, Georgia. In Bastogne, Belgium, however, a neatly painted replica of the famous Sherman “King Cobra” was installed.
