The Panzer VI Tiger, better known as the “Tiger,” was a German heavy tank that became famous during World War II. It was distinguished by its unparalleled firepower and armor, which made it a true fortress on the battlefield.
It first appeared on the front lines in 1942, and the first units reached the battlefields of
Leningrad and Tunisia.
Over time, this tank earned enormous respect from the Allies, who had to face its extraordinary effectiveness. However, production of the Tiger was expensive and time-consuming, and due to the limited number of units, it did not have a decisive impact on the outcome of the war.
During their deployment, the Tigers destroyed over 10,300 enemy tanks and 11,380 guns, but also suffered losses of their own—1,725 vehicles destroyed.
One of the most famous Tigers is No. 131, which was captured as war booty by the British in North Africa in 1943. Today, this tank is one of the main attractions at the Tank Museum in Bovington, where it can be admired in all its glory.
