Build a model of the Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer “Chwat” and discover its story—from a German tank destroyer to an icon of the Warsaw Uprising! Create a model that tells one of the most extraordinary stories of the Warsaw Uprising. The Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer “Chwat” (German: Brave) was not only a German tank destroyer but also a captured vehicle that briefly became a symbol of the ingenuity, determination, and courage of the Polish insurgents.
This set takes you to the heart of the battle in Warsaw and lets you relive a true story. The insurgents’ “Chwat” complements the COBI sets on the Warsaw Uprising. Add to your collection with the Panther “Pudel,” the armored car “Kubuś,” and the figures of the Warsaw insurgents. Expand your collection and build historical dioramas of the Warsaw Uprising.
A Symbol of Captured Weapons and Hope
The Jagdpanzer 38(t) was a German tank destroyer based on the LT vz. 38 chassis. It was developed in 1943 and entered production in April 1944. In modern literature, it is colloquially referred to as the Hetzer (“instigator”), although this was not its official designation. Nevertheless, it was frequently used during World War II. It was characterized by its low profile, sloped armor, and simple, cost-effective design, which made it an effective defensive weapon. Despite its technical limitations, it quickly earned a reputation as a feared vehicle and was deployed on the Eastern Front, among other places.
“Chwat” is a Hetzer that was captured by Warsaw insurgents on August 2, 1944, during the fighting for the Main Post Office. The vehicle, which belonged to the German 743rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, was damaged and initially incorporated into a barricade before being repaired. Although it was not used in combat, it became a symbol of captured weapons and hope. After the war, it ended up in the Polish Army Museum, but was scrapped in 1950 on the orders of the communist rulers of the time.
What you get in the JAGDPANZER 38(t) HETZER “CHWAT” kit:
• A captured tank destroyer – the kit depicts a model of the 38(t) Hetzer tank destroyer captured by the Warsaw Insurgents. Articulated tracks allow for realistic movement of the vehicle, and the mounted MG 34 machine gun underscores its combat-ready nature.
• 1:28 scale – the model’s proportions faithfully reproduce the shape and character of the Hetzer. The chosen scale allows for the inclusion of numerous structural details while maintaining full functionality. The 1:28 scale is the most detailed available for the HISTORICAL COLLECTION sets dedicated to World War II. At this scale, COBI offers the best and most elaborate sets for discerning collectors.
• Dual markings – The model features an authentic paint scheme and two armor markings: Insurgent or German. You decide which version will enhance your collection or diorama.
• Detailed interior – Not only the armor and markings, but also the interior of the tank has been historically accurately recreated. A removable armor panel allows you to look inside, where you can admire both the engine compartment and the meticulously detailed crew compartment.
• Ideal for play and display – The vehicle looks great in a display case, on a collector’s shelf, or as the centerpiece of a diorama, and is equally suited for dynamic play and reenacting historical scenes.
• Figure of a soldier from the Warsaw Uprising – The set is complemented by a figure of a soldier from the Warsaw Uprising, designed with exceptional attention to historical detail, the symbolism of the insurgents, and their clothing and weaponry.
• Badge featuring a reproduction of the insurgents’ poster – The set includes a badge with a reproduction of the famous poster “To Arms, Join the Ranks of the Home Army!” by Mieczysław Jurgielewicz and Edmund Burke. The poster was created in the first days of August 1944 and became one of the most recognizable symbols of the Warsaw Uprising. Reproductions of the poster can be used to build dioramas and scenes depicting the insurgents’ battles.
• Highest build quality – The model consists of high-quality elements with durable, abrasion-resistant prints. The solid construction guarantees both aesthetic appeal and a long service life.
• Exclusive collector’s plaque – An elegant plaque featuring the set’s name and scale perfectly complements the display in a showcase or on a diorama base.
